BREATH WORKSHOP
Your breathing affects more than just how much air you take in.
Your breath is closely connected to how your body responds to stress, how you feel during exercise, and how well you perform when things get challenging.
In this workshop, we'll explore the role of CO₂, breathing, and the body's stress response and then put that information into practice through individual assessments.
You won't just learn about breathing.
You'll learn how your body responds to it.
WHO IS THIS WORKSHOP FOR?
This workshop is for you if:
You experience exercise-induced asthma or breathing difficulties.
Learn more about how CO₂ tolerance, breathing, and airway response can affect what happens when you exercise.
You deal with physical or mental stress and anxiety.
We'll explore how your breathing interacts with your body's stress response and what happens when that system is challenged.
You want to improve your work capacity.
We'll use a paced breathing assessment to see how you respond as the demands of exercise increase.
You want to better understand your body.
Instead of simply being told to “breathe better,” you'll assess your own response and establish a baseline you can work from.
WHAT WE'LL LEARN
CO₂ & THE STRESS RESPONSE
CO₂ plays an important role in how the body responds to stress.
We'll discuss how CO₂ acts as a stress messenger and its relationship to the body's biological response to panic.
CO₂ & OXYGEN UTILIZATION
We'll explore how changes in CO₂ can influence how your body utilizes oxygen during exercise, including the Bohr Effect and why this matters for performance.
CO₂ TOLERANCE & AIRWAY RESPONSE
We'll discuss the relationship between CO₂ tolerance and airway constriction, and how this can relate to breathing difficulties such as asthma.
THEN WE'LL TEST IT
This isn't just a lecture.
You'll complete two assessments designed to give you a better understanding of your current baseline and how your body responds when it's challenged.
01 — CO₂ TOLERANCE TEST
You'll complete a simple breathing assessment to establish your current CO₂ tolerance.
We'll also practice breathing mechanics and pay attention to what you notice during the assessment, including physical sensations, thoughts, and emotions.
Your result gives us a starting point.
02 — 5-MINUTE PACED BREATHING / WORK CAPACITY TEST
You'll perform a short work-based assessment while paying attention to what happens as the intensity increases.
The goal isn't simply to see how hard you can work.
We'll look at how you respond to the stress of the effort, physically and mentally.
WHAT WILL YOU WALK AWAY WITH?
By the end of the workshop, you'll have:
A better understanding of CO₂ and your stress response
A baseline for your current CO₂ tolerance
More awareness of how your breathing changes during exercise
Insight into how you respond physically and mentally when you're under stress
A better understanding of what you may need to work on to improve your capacity
And everyone who attends receives a:
FREE 1-ON-1 FOLLOW-UP EVALUATION
We'll take the information from your workshop, review your results, discuss your goals, and help you understand what your next steps could look like.
WHAT DO I NEED TO BRING?
Workout attire
Water bottle
That's it.
